When you order custom embroidery, you may
have heard the word "digitizing”.
But what does this actually mean? And why should you care? Here's everything
you ever wanted to know about embroidery digitizing: Embroidery digitizing or
the process of converting a logo drawing into digitizing data that tells a
computerized embroidery machine how to move through the embroidery process. To
embroider any item (such as a shirt, hat, or bag), you need a digitized file
that tells the embroidery machine what to sew onto the garment. This is a very
different file than a "vectorized" print file.
The scanner converts the design to a
computer format, allowing digital converters to use the most original artwork
without having to recreate the design. Many embroidery digitizing systems allow
the digitizer to transfer the design directly to the embroidery digitizing
program without the use of intermediate software.
Stitch Count: Each Logo is made up of
the number of stitches, or the number of times the needle has gone through the
garment. The cost of digitizing embroidery is calculated based on the number of
stitches. This also determines the price of each "hit" (i.e.
embroidery per item).
Frame: Each item to be embroidered
must be mounted in a frame. These vary in size and can be embroidered onto
small items, such as purses, and large items can be embroidered on a large site
on the back of a coat.
Color and color change: When signs are
digitized, the machine records a "stop" every time it needs to change
color. You can change the colors in Embroidery for different garments. Unlike
printing, changing the color of embroidery does not add any extra cost.
Monogram: Embroidery design consisting
of one or more letters, usually an initial and a name.
